Summary

The course is designed to provide for care support workers, an overview to the
Sexual offences Act, understanding professional boundaries and best practice
when working with sexual offenders.

Who should attend?

Staff who support individuals who may have (or are vulnerable to) committing sexual offences.

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

• Understand the SEXUAL OFFENCES ACT 2003
(The act in 3 parts
What is legally not acceptable with children
Abuse of positions of trust)
• Understand Working with sexual offenders
(criminal justice, human services, mental health systems and subsystems
and their individual roles in the process of dealing with sex offenders and
their victims)
• Understand clinical and criminal classifications of sex offenders
• Identify characteristics of Professional Boundaries
(Who Negotiates the Boundaries in the Professional Relationship
Areas where Boundaries Can Become Blurred, Maintaining established
conventions, Questions to Consider in Examining Potential Boundary
Issues ? , Warning Signs, Prevention and Avoidance of Sexual
Misconduct )

How many candidates may attend?
This training is not limited in numbers but due to the nature of its content it is advised no more than 15 staff should attend.

Equivalent Relevant information

1. Certificates are issued for each learners and if dated, are valid to that period. N.B Learners attending
must complete the entire duration of the training to qualify for a certificate.
2. A learner assessment may be required post training for audit and PDP purposes.
