An introductory workshop over 3hrs for health care
workers exploring aspects of mental health in learning
disabilities.

Who should attend?

Staff who support individuals with learning disabilities in residential care, day centres or in their own home.

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

• Identify the relevant and most common types of Learning disabilities
• Understand why people with learning disabilities are vulnerable to developing
mental health problems
• Adopt a holistic approach to the assessment of LD awareness. Understand their
own and others roles in assessment
• Be aware of the different interventions available
• Have an understanding of some of the legal and ethical issues

Included in the session is theory based information that may involve a power point
presentation.
The key points to remember are:

3. Staff attending should remain for the entire length of the session.
