- Summary
This two hour introductory course is for workers in residential or
community settings who wish to explore and develop an understanding of
common medicines, dispensing techniques and poly pharmacy when
supporting individuals with mental health needs.- Who should attend?
This course is relevant to workers who support individuals in all care
settings – hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in the individual’s
own home.- Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

• Understand the legislative framework for the use of medication in social
care settings
• Know about common types of psychiatric medication and their use
• Understand roles and responsibilities in the use of medication in social
care settings
• Understand techniques for administering medication
• Be able to receive, store and dispose of medication supplies safely
• Know how to promote the rights of the individual when managing
medication
• Be able to support use of medication
• Be able to record and report on use of medication - How many candidates may attend?

1. Certificates are issued for each learners and if dated, are valid to that period. N.B Learners attending
must complete the entire duration of the training to qualify for a certificate.
2. A learner assessment may be required post training for audit and PDP purposes.
