Summary

The course is designed for those working in a wide range of settings to attain the
knowledge and practical competencies required to deal with a range of
emergency first aid situations.
Learners will need to demonstrate practical administration of safe, prompt,
effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the
first aider including equipment, record keeping and basic hygiene

Who should attend?

This unit is relevant to all workers who provide direct support to clients in all
care settings – hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in the client’s
own home.

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

Understand the role and responsibility of an emergency first aider
• Know how to assess an incident
• Manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
• Manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
• Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
• Manage a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• Manage a casualty who is in shock
• Understand how to manage a casualty with a minor injury

How many candidates may attend?
This training is limited to 12 learners

Equivalent Relevant information

1. Certificates are issued for each learners and if dated, are valid to that period. N.B Learners attending
must complete the entire duration of the training to qualify for a certificate.
2. A learner assessment may be required post training for audit and PDP purposes.
Registration details are kept by us for Seven years and are legal documents. It is important to register in block
capitals clearly on the day.

3. This is practical training, learners need to wear flat comfortable shoes and practical clothing. A practice area may be required .
