Summary

This health and safety management course is designed for supervisors
and is based on the Health and Safety Executive’s guide to ‘Successful
Health and Safety Management’ (HSG65), to enable self-regulation,
leading to a pro-active health and safety management system.

Who should attend?

The course has been designed specifically for those who have health
and safety management responsibilities, such as care managers, Line
Managers and mentor supervisors, and will instruct staff in areas of
safe practice and risk assessment. Candidates should have the ability
and evidence to cascade the training.

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

Be aware of their responsibilities to identify health and
safety risks in the environment.
• Know what to do if electricity, gas or water needs to be
turned off in an emergency.
• Understand the importance of safe storage and disposal
of substances, which are harmful to health.
• Be aware of and audit security measures in the
workplace.
• Understand elements of risk in relation to medication and
how to carry out assessments on level of assistance
require by employee
• Ensure competent administration of medication

N.B DURING THE COURSE THERE WILL BE A MIXTURE OF PRESENTATIONS, SYNDICATE AND GROUP WORK USING
LOCAL POLICIES, PROCEDURES AND DOCUMENTATION RELEVANT TO THE CANDIDATES
1. For registered nurses who wish to incorporate this training into your PREP portfolio’s, you should carry out
practice reflection and attach subsequent evidence from this training
2. Certificates are issued for each candidate and are valid for a maximum of 2 years – staff who attend should
consider the recommendation laid down in their organisational policy of reviewing health and safety.
3. A certificate of competence will also be issued for presentation
4. A candidate assessment is available for post training audit
5. A multiple choice questionnaire may be required to demonstrate competence
6. On completion of the course, candidates will have an in-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation
applicable to their work role. They shall also be able to carry out monitor and review risk assessments, as well
as the management of effective health and safety information systems, and ergonomic / occupational health
management.
