Summary

This course is designed for care staff working in a wide range of settings. It provides
the learner with the knowledge and skills required to promote and implement
good health and safety practice in their work setting and meets the objectives set by the common induction standards.

Who should attend?

This training is relevant to all who support individuals whether in their own
home, residential or supported living.

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

Understand their responsibility and the responsibility of others relating
to health and safety
• Understand the requirements of health and safety legislation
• Know how to monitor and report potential health and safety risks
• Understand how to minimise potential risks and hazards
• Understand the principles of risk assessment
• Understand procedures for responding to accidents and sudden illness
• Understand how to handle hazardous substances and materials
• Understand the need to follow agreed ways of working and the policies
and procedures of the organisation.

1. Certificates are issued for each learners and if dated, are valid to that period. N.B Learners attending
must complete the entire duration of the training to qualify for a certificate.
2. A learner assessment may be required post training for audit and PDP purposes.
