- Summary
A one day course for senior workers in residential or community settings
who take responsibility for developing and implementing
Safeguarding procedures within their service.- Who should attend?
This unit is relevant to workers who manager personal care to clients in all
care settings – hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in the client’s
own home and are involved in the care planning process.- Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to

Understand the problems facing vulnerable people, and the carer’s role
in safe guarding those they care for.
• Give examples of the policy and legal frameworks that influence the
safeguarding procedure
• Understand ‘No Secrets’ DOH 2000
• Explore the company policy relating to abuse and the whistle blowing
procedure
• Demonstrate when and how to respond and then report allegations or
suspicion of abuse/neglect.
• Reflect on your services’ work practice in regard to safeguarding those
you support
• Understand how duty of care contributes to safe practice
• Know how to address conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between an
individual’s rights and the duty of care
• Know how to respond to complaints
• Know where to source information and key knowledge for continuing
development for both care support staff and managers
• Assuring Safeguarding with quality assurance - How many candidates may attend?
- No limit but due to the sensitive nature of this training, smaller groups are suggested in order that disclosure is not affected

For registered nurses who wish to incorporate this training into your PREP portfolio’s, you should carry
out practice reflection and attach subsequent evidence from this training
2. Certificates are issued for each candidate and are valid for approximately 2 years
3. A candidate assessment is available for post training audit
4. The training venue should be quiet and undisturbed.
5. Staff should not be expected to be on duty
6. Staff attending should remain for the entire length of the session.
Registration details are kept by us for Seven years and are legal documents. It is important to register in block capitals clearly on the day.
